Theatre History and Literature IV

This class focused on global theatre from 1950 to the present day. We focused on different styles of dramatic expression, some of which included interactive theatre, Theatre of the Oppressed, and socially and politically relevant pieces. The final project for this course was to focus on a contemporary work in an overview presentation, accompanied by an essay that dove into a further developed thesis about the same piece. I chose to work on the 2015 musical Fun Home, based on the 2006 graphic novel by Alison Bechdel of the same name. The essay I wrote focuses on act of translating art from page to stage, emphasizing the distinctly queer form of art that is the graphic novel.
