Acting Theories and Techniques II
Ross Lehman, Fall 23
In this course, we focused on the work of Shakespeare for the entirety of the semester. We learned how to navigate the language's complexity, gain a deeper understanding of the verse, utilize punctuation in our acting, and break down the English we are not used to speaking into comprehensible scenes and monologues. As someone who had worked with Shakespeare in very limited contexts prior to this course, I came away with an increased level of comfort and confidence in my ability to perform his work. An example from this class is a clip from Act II Scene 4 of Measure for Measure with a fellow classmate. Also included is a short essay analyzing the dynamics of Shakespearian relationships in the context of gender. I took into consideration the connection between Titania and Oberon in A Midsummer Night's Dream.
